Tarangire Simba Lodge Location: Tarangire Simba Lodge is situated outside Tarangire National Park near Sangaiwe Gate, in a wildlife-rich area, with views of beautiful Lake Burunge. Accommodation: The lodge currently boasts eight spacious canvas safari tents under thatch sitting on platforms with wooden floors. The tents are en-suite with attached dressing room, toilet, and an indoor and outdoor shower. Each tent has a private veranda with views to the surrounding bush. Nyikani Tented Camp – Tarangire Location: Nyikani Camp Tarangire (formerly called Kichuguu) is situated in the south of Tarangire and is designed to look like the termite mounds that are in abundance throughout the national park. It may be accessed via road transfer from Tarangire Gate, a journey of 45 minutes. Alternatively, guests may fly in to Kuro Airstrip, which is just 5 minutes from camp. The site is surrounded by acacia trees and the property is eco-friendly, using solar power and recycled materials. Accommodation: Guest accommodation at Kichuguu consists of 13 tents, all dotted around the grounds with 15–20 metres between them. Like the communal tents, each is canvas with a wooden floor. There are 12 tents that guests can opt for a king-size bed, twin beds, or triple beds, and one tent that is used as a family room. Other features include bedside tables and lighting, a writing desk and chair, a digital safe, and a power point with universal adaptor. The palette is similar to that of the lounge tent, though with more of an emphasis on a calm slate blue. A curtained aperture within a partition wall leads to the en-suite facilities, comprising flush toilet, twin washbasins, and classic bucket shower! At the front of each tent is a private veranda, with chairs and a small table. This is a smashing little spot for checking out the local wildlife. Facilities & Services: Communal facilities are housed in two canvas tents – one for lounging and one for dining. Each boasts furniture sourced from Arusha, set out on a smart wooden floor. The lounge tent contains plenty of comfy chairs and sofas around coffee tables, in an array of cool colours – blue, purple, and mauve. There is also a drinks cabinet. In the dining tent, chic wooden tables flanked by upright chairs are neatly laid for meals involving gourmet Swahili cuisine. The education centre, intended primarily for young safarists, includes termite mounds in its design, while the campfire area a short distance from the tents is perfect for gatherings come nightfall – here you can chat with fellow travellers about your safari day. Nimali Camp Tarangire Location: Nimali Tarangire is situated on the banks of a seasonal river within its own concession, on Tarangire N.P.’s eastern boundary. The camp is accessed via flight from Arusha to Kuro airstrip (20 minutes) or Lake Manyara airstrip (30 minutes), followed by a drive of 3 hours from Kuro or 1 hour from Lake Manyara. Road transfer from Arusha’s airport takes about 2 hours 30 minutes, and from Kilimanjaro’s airport the journey time is 4 hours. Accommodation: Guest accommodation consists of six tented suites, spaced along the river banks. Each is set up on a sturdy concrete, stone, and wood-look tile plinth, with the area in front of the tent entrance serving as a private deck complete with two cowskin chairs and a table. The tiles continue into the tent and are covered by matting in places. Interior furnishings and amenities feature a king-size bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, a writing desk and chair, comfy armchairs, a fan, an electronic safe, a hairdryer, torches, and insect repellent. Facilities & Services: The en-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins, and rainfall shower with hot water available 24/7. Free toiletries are provided, including bar and liquid soap as well as body lotion. Although there is no family tent, two of the tents are pretty close together, and three tents are sufficiently spacious to accommodate an extra bed. Nimali Tarangire’s communal lodge building features the same wood-effect tiling as the guest tents, in addition to wood-and-canvas walls and an immaculately thatched roof. Inside, the lounge contains comfortable sofas and armchairs around coffee tables, pictures of plants, and a selection of reading material. In the dining area, chic separate tables are flanked by smart rattan chairs, and more plant artwork adorns the walls. A short walk from the lodge, you’ll find the fire-pit boma, where guests often gather for sundowner drinks before dinner.
